GitHub

Sync GitHub docs and markdown into a knowledge base so the AI agent answers from your repos.

Connect GitHub and pick the files the AI agent should read — READMEs, docs, markdown, and other text files from your repositories. Chatasist pulls each file's content into a knowledge base, embeds it for retrieval, and re-indexes it when it changes.

GitHub sync is available on the Growth plan and above. On Free and Starter, the Integrations menu and the "GitHub" knowledge-source option are hidden.

Connect GitHub#

  1. Go to Integrations in the sidebar.
  2. On the GitHub card, click Connect GitHub.
  3. Sign in to GitHub and authorize access to the repositories you want.
  4. You're returned to the Integrations page with GitHub listed as Active.

Add files to a knowledge base#

  1. Go to Knowledge Base and click Create knowledge base, name it, and pick GitHub as the type.
  2. Choose the connection, then pick a repository.
  3. Tick the files you want (Chatasist lists the repository's text and markdown files), and click Add selected files.

Indexing runs in the background and the AI agent can answer from those files on its next reply. You can add files from multiple repositories to the same knowledge base.

How sync stays up to date#

A background job runs about every 10 minutes, re-pulls each connected account, and re-indexes any file that changed since the last sync, so answers stay current as your docs evolve.

Disconnect#

From Integrations → GitHub, click Disconnect. The AI agent stops syncing from that account; already-indexed content keeps working until you remove the affected sources or knowledge base. Nothing in GitHub is changed — disconnecting only removes Chatasist's access.

What the integration can and can't see#

  • Only what you authorize. Chatasist reads only the repositories you grant access to.
  • Text and markdown, not code logic. It indexes documentation-style files; it doesn't execute or reason about code.
