How to add live chat to your website

A step-by-step guide to adding the Chatasist live chat widget to any website with a single script tag.

This guide walks through adding live chat to your website with Chatasist — from creating the widget to answering your first message. It takes about five minutes.

1

Create a website widget channel

In the app, go to Settings → Channels and add a Website widget. Give it a name and set your brand colors, home title, greeting, and language.

2

Copy your embed snippet

Open the channel and copy its embed code. It looks like this — replace CHANNEL_UUID with your widget's UUID:

<script
  type="module"
  src="https://widget.chatasist.com/embed.js"
  data-chatasist="CHANNEL_UUID"
  data-chatasist-lang="en"
></script>
3

Add it to your site

Paste the snippet before the closing </body> tag on every page where you want chat — in your theme/template, tag manager, or site builder's custom-code section.

4

Approve your domain

Add your website's domain to the channel's allowed domains so the widget loads there.

5

Test and answer

Open your site, send a test message, and answer it from the inbox. Optionally enable the AI agent to answer automatically.

Authenticate known customers (optional)#

To bind the chat to a signed-in customer, pass a session token via data-chatasist-session-jwt. See Embed the widget for the full set of attributes and authentication options.
