Confluence
Sync Confluence pages into a knowledge base so the AI agent answers from your team's docs.
Connect an Atlassian Confluence site and pick the pages you want the AI agent to read. Chatasist pulls each page's content into a knowledge base, embeds it for retrieval, and re-indexes the page whenever you edit it in Confluence.
Confluence sync is available on the Growth plan and above (including Scale and Enterprise). On Free and Starter, the Integrations menu and the "Confluence pages" option in the knowledge-base creator are hidden.
Connect a Confluence site#
- Go to Integrations in the sidebar.
- On the Confluence card, click Connect Confluence.
- Sign in to Atlassian and choose the site you want to share
(for example
your-team.atlassian.net). - Approve read access. You're returned to the Integrations page with the site listed as Active.
If your Atlassian account has access to more than one site, each one is added so you can pick pages from any of them.
Realtime updates (optional)#
For the fastest sync, install the Chatasist app from the Atlassian Marketplace on your Confluence site. With the app installed, page edits are pushed to Chatasist and re-indexed within a couple of minutes. If you don't install it, Chatasist still keeps content fresh with a background check about every 10 minutes (see How sync stays up to date).
Add Confluence pages to a knowledge base#
Once a site is connected:
- Go to Knowledge Base in the sidebar.
- Click Create knowledge base, give it a name, and pick Confluence pages as the type.
- In the sheet that opens, choose the site, search for the pages you want, and tick them.
- Click Add selected pages. Chatasist starts indexing in the background and the AI agent can answer from those pages on its next reply.
You can add up to 100 pages per submission. To add more, repeat the flow — there's no overall page cap inside a knowledge base.
Multiple knowledge bases#
Each knowledge base is its own bucket. You might keep a "Public help" KB fed by your customer-facing docs and a separate "Internal" KB fed by team runbooks, then point different channels at each.
How sync stays up to date#
Chatasist refreshes Confluence content in two ways:
- Live updates. When you edit a page and the Chatasist Marketplace app is installed on your site, Chatasist re-embeds that page within a couple of minutes.
- Safety-net sync. A scheduled job checks every connected site about every 10 minutes and re-pulls anything that changed — so content stays fresh even without the Marketplace app.
Disconnect a site#
From Integrations → Confluence, click Disconnect on a site.
- If no knowledge sources are linked to it, the site card disappears.
- If sources are linked, the site is marked Disconnected and the sources are flagged Needs attention. Reconnect the same site later to resume syncing them — Chatasist re-uses the existing rows.
Disconnecting does not delete already-indexed content. The AI agent keeps answering from the chunks it already has until you remove the affected sources or knowledge base.
What the integration can and can't see#
- Only what your account can access. Confluence's permission model is the boundary — Chatasist reads pages with the access you granted at sign-in.
- Page content, not comments. Inline comments, mentions, and presence are ignored.
- Restricted pages stay restricted. Pages a connected account can't open in Confluence won't appear in the picker.
Troubleshooting#
"No pages found" in the picker. The picker only lists pages the connected Atlassian account can access. Confirm you signed in with an account that can see the space, then reload.
A page didn't reflect my edit. With the Marketplace app installed, updates usually arrive in minutes; otherwise the safety-net sync (about every 10 minutes) will catch up. You can also open the knowledge base and click Reindex to force an immediate refresh.
"This Confluence site is no longer connected" toast. The site was disconnected or access was revoked on Atlassian's side. Reconnect it from Integrations.
Pages stopped syncing and the site shows "missing a required permission". Confluence connections created earlier may not include a permission we now need to read page content. Reconnect the site from Integrations to grant it — your knowledge bases and page selections are kept, and sync resumes automatically.
Use your Confluence-fed knowledge base to power answers in the website widget.
