Website widget

Create, customize, and embed the live-chat widget.

The website widget is an embeddable live chat that loads from widget.chatasist.com. It supports anonymous visitors and authenticated (known) customers.

Create the channel#

Under Settings → Channels, add a Website widget channel. Configurable fields:

FieldNotes
NameInternal label for the channel.
Widget icon / agent iconImage, up to 5 MB.
Website(s)One or more domains the widget may be embedded on (required).
Background / foreground colorTheme colors. Defaults #2563eb / #ffffff.
Home title / descriptionShown in the widget Home tab (translatable per language).
AI greetingFirst message the AI agent shows (translatable).
Pre-chat form fieldsExtra fields visitors fill in before chatting, beyond the built-in name and email. Starter plan or higher.
Hide "Powered by Chatasist" badgeRemoves the footer branding from the widget. Starter plan or higher.
Voice / video callsShow or hide the in-widget call buttons. On by default where your plan includes calls. Voice: Growth and above. Video: Scale and above.

The channel's UUID is the value you embed.

Remove the "Powered by Chatasist" badge#

By default, the widget shows a small Powered by Chatasist badge in its footer. On the Starter plan and above, you can hide it from the widget settings:

1

Open the channel

Go to Settings → Channels and edit your website widget.

2

Toggle the setting

Under appearance, switch on Hide "Powered by Chatasist" badge.

3

Save

The change takes effect the next time a visitor loads the widget.

This toggle removes the footer badge only. The widget still loads from widget.chatasist.com. For a fully white-labeled widget served from your own domain, see Plans & pricing — that's a separate Growth-plan feature.

On the Free plan the badge is always shown, regardless of the toggle. If you downgrade from Starter+ to Free, the badge re-appears on the widget even if you had it hidden before — your saved setting is preserved and restored if you upgrade again.

Embed it#

Add one script tag, replacing CHANNEL_UUID:

<script
  type="module"
  src="https://widget.chatasist.com/embed.js"
  data-chatasist="CHANNEL_UUID"
  data-chatasist-lang="en"
></script>

Full embed options, attributes, and authenticating known customers are covered in Embed the widget.

Allowed domains & security#

Each website you list is normalized to a host and added to the widget's Content-Security-Policy frame-ancestors allow-list, so the widget iframe only renders on domains you approve. The widget Worker fetches this policy from a public GET /widget/embed-config?channel={uuid} endpoint at load time. Hosts are matched with and without www..

Visitor sessions#

Anonymous visitors

Get a guest customer record, reused per device, with no sign-in.

Known customers

Bind the session to a customer using a session JWT or a long-lived embed token (cwt_…). See Embed the widget.

A pre-chat identify step can collect first name, last name, and email before the conversation starts.

Custom pre-chat fields#

Beyond the built-in first name, last name, and email, you can add your own fields to the pre-chat form — for example a company name, order number, or a plan dropdown. Visitors fill them in before the chat starts, and the answers are saved to the customer's profile so your team sees them in the inbox and on the customer page.

Custom pre-chat fields are available on the Starter plan and above. On the Free plan the form is limited to the default fields (first name, last name, email). If you downgrade to Free, your saved fields are kept but hidden from the widget until you upgrade again.

Each field has a label, a type, and an optional "Required" toggle. Supported types:

TypeUse for
TextShort free text (e.g. company name).
ParagraphLonger multi-line text.
EmailAn email address (validated).
PhoneA phone number.
NumberNumeric input.
DropdownA list of options you define; the visitor picks one.
CheckboxA yes/no opt-in (e.g. "Subscribe to updates").
1

Open the channel

Go to Settings → Channels and edit your website widget.

2

Add a field

Under Pre-chat form fields, choose Add field, then set its label and type. For a dropdown, add the options visitors can choose from. Turn on Required if an answer is mandatory. You can add up to 10 fields.

3

Save

The new fields appear in the pre-chat form the next time a visitor starts a chat.

Turn voice or video calls off#

When your plan includes calls, the widget shows voice and video call buttons at the top of an open conversation. You can hide either one per channel — for example, to offer voice support but not video.

1

Open the channel

Go to Settings → Channels and edit your website widget.

2

Toggle the calls you want

Switch Voice calls or Video calls off to hide that button, or leave it on to keep it.

3

Save

The button disappears from the widget the next time a visitor loads it.

The call toggles appear only on plans that include that call type — voice on Growth and above, video on Scale and above. On plans without calls the buttons never show, so there's nothing to switch off. Turning a button off only hides it from visitors; your agents can still start a call from the inbox. See Voice & video calls.

What customers can attach#

Customers can send pictures in the widget from their very first message — for example a photo of a wrong or damaged item, or a payment receipt. The image button is next to the message box, in a new conversation and while the AI agent is answering.

LimitValue
FormatsJPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF
SizeUp to 10 MB per image
Per messageUp to 5 images

If a customer picks something else — an unsupported format, an image that is too large, or more than five at once — the widget leaves it out and tells them why, in the widget's language. Their text and the images that are fine stay in place.

A picture sent in the chat appears in the conversation for the customer and for your team in the inbox, and stays with the conversation.

Files, videos and voice messages become available once a member of your team is assigned to the conversation. While the AI agent is answering, customers can attach images only.

Large phone photos are made smaller on the customer's device before they are sent, so they upload quickly on a mobile connection. An animated GIF that has to be made smaller is sent as a still image.

In-widget features#

  • Quick actions — up to 6 resource shortcuts surface automatically when the AI agent is enabled on the channel.
  • Typing indicators & real-time delivery — updates appear instantly.
  • Image attachments — customers can send up to 5 pictures per message from the first message on. See What customers can attach.
  • Relative message times — each message in the open chat shows how long ago it was sent ("Just now", "2 min ago", "yesterday") instead of a fixed date and time, refreshing on its own while the chat stays open. Times are shown in the widget's language.
  • Home, Messages, News, Help tabs — News and Help articles come from your Help Center.
  • Voice & video calls — on by default where your plan includes calls; each button can be switched off per channel. See Calls.
